The Political Party of Thomas Jefferson.
This was written by Thomas Jefferson in 1795, when Jefferson was running for President of the United States. This is a response from a letter written by Christoph Daniel Ebeling for information to write a volume titled "Geography and History of North America". Thomas Jefferson lost the Presidential bid to John Adams in 1796, but won the next election in the "Revolution of 1800" as it's been called.
NOTES ON PROFESSOR EBELING'S LETTER OF JULY 30TH, 1795
[The Anti-Republicans] pressed forward the plan therefore of strengthening all the features of the government which gave it resemblance to an English constitution, of adopting the English forms & principles of administration, and of forming like them a monied interest, by means of a funding system, not calculated to pay the public debt, but to render it perpetual, and to make it an engine in the hands of the executive branch of the government which, added to the great patronage it possessed in the disposal of public offices, might enable it to assume by degrees a kingly authority.
....
The Anti-republicans consist of
1. The old refugees & tories.
2. British merchants residing among us, & composing the main body of our merchants.
3. American merchants trading on British capital. Another great portion.
4. Speculators & Holders in the banks & public funds.
5. Officers of the federal government with some exceptions.
6. Office-hunters, willing to give up principles for places. A numerous & noisy tribe.
7. Nervous persons, whose languid fibres have more analogy with a passive than active state of things.
The Republican part of our Union comprehends*
1. The entire body of landholders throughout the United States.
2. The body of labourers, not being landholders, whether in husbanding or the arts.
The latter is to the aggregate of the former party probably as 500 to one; but their wealth is not as disproportionate, tho’ it is also greatly superior, and is in truth the foundation of that of their antagonists. Trifling as are the numbers of the Anti-republican party, there are circumstances which give them an appearance of strength & numbers. They all live in cities, together, & can act in a body readily & at all times; they give chief employment to the newspapers, & therefore have most of them under their command. The Agricultural interest is dispersed over a great extent of country, have little means of intercommunication with each other, and feeling their own strength & will, are conscious that a single exertion of these will at any time crush the machinations against their government.
--
*In modern terms: home owners, laborers, renters, families and artistic bachelors.
The letter at length is here, and worthy of not only reading, but extreme consideration.
We must remember that "Republican" had a very different ideal during Jefferson's time, it was focused on keeping Democracy in the form of a republic, the Anti-Republican wished for government in the form of Monarchy. I believe completely that both the Democrat and the Republican party in modern day United States have been infiltrated by groups of people which Jefferson would describe "Anti-Republican", and seek to instill a monarchy today. If these people seem impossibly un-American, then read Hamilton's parts of The Federalist which enumerate this parties goals of tyranny and suppression of freedom for the power of the elites.
Follow the footsteps of Jefferson, who created the Jeffersonian Party! The ideals are simple, and were directly outlined in 1793:
- -Divide the Treasury department
- -Abolish the bank. (Abolish the Federal Reserve)
- -Repeal the Excise law and let states raise the money. (End the Drug War, Regulate Marijuana**)
- -Lower impost. (Lower taxes, any way possible)
- -Treasurer to pay and receive cash not bills. (Remove Fiat money, bring back the Gold Standard)
- -Repeal irredeemable quality and borrow at 4 per cent. (Usury laws that cap interest rates at 4% for home loans and other loans)
- -Exclude paper holders (remove the excess money from the rich who will not invest it into real assets)
**This would also include a direct excise tax on Marijuana, on a standard written into a State's constitution to require 2/3rds vote to change the tax, with an expiration date of the tax set for no less than 10 years. Although deeply contrary to Jefferson's views, I believe it to be the only way to pay for any possible drug abuse that may result, and with proper safe guards prevent undo taxation by future Anti-Republicans.
